Mt Stirling featured in Melbourne Museum exhibition 27th November 2009The stunning environment of Mt Stirling is currently being featured in a photographic exhibition called 'Wild' at the Melbourne Museum, which takes a look at more than 750 animals from around the world and the precious ecosystems they live in. It examines how they are affected by climate change and human activity, and what we can do to help them.
Many species and ecological communities are found only in the alps. Some are at risk of extinction, such as the Baw Baw Frog, Alpine Water Skink, Mountain Pygmy-possum and Stirling Stonefly. The Victorian Alps remain largely intact and protected in National Parks, but climate change is a threat to species that can survive only in alpine habitats.
