Code Red - Mt Stirling Closed 11th January 2010The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast a CODE RED (Catastrophic) fire danger rating in the North Country and the North East forecast districts tomorrow, Tuesday 12 January.
Parks Victoria and the Department of Sustainability and Environment advise that all national and state parks and forests in the North Country and the North East will be closed tomorrow in the interest of public safety.
In line with this decision, the Mt Buller and Mt Stirling Alpine Resort Management Board (ARMB) has closed Mt Stirling to visitors during this period, as the Resort abuts many of the areas currently classified as Code Red.
Those who are already in the Resort are advised that the safest option is to leave tonight or early tomorrow morning, as bushfires which start on a day of Code Red fire danger rating may be uncontrollable, unpredictable and move quickly.
People planning to visit Mt Stirling tomorrow are advised to make alternate plans.
For further information about Mt Stirling during the Code Red period, contact the ARMB on 03 5777 6077.
