Free-heelers to come together for Mt Stirling’s Backcountry Festival 17th July 2010Lovers of traditional free-heel skiing will convene on Mt Stirling next weekend when the Resort hosts its annual Backcountry Festival on July 24-25.
A fixture on the Mt Stirling calendar each year, the Festival is a weekend full of backcountry fun, with telemark clinics for all levels, tele-cross races on the summit at Mt Buller, demo ski try-out, late afternoon videos and get together in the Bistro and more.
Visitors can also get back to nature and sleep out at the Alpine Winter Camp, a semi-permanent camp consisting of a warming central tepee with pot belly stove and surrounding accommodation tents. Located in the Cricket Pitch area above the snowline, the camp provides the fun and unique experience of camping in the snow.
All levels of skiers are catered for, with ski hire and lessons available, giving an excellent opportunity for beginners to try out telemark skiing and explore the stunning backcountry at Mt Stirling.
