Truly immerse yourself in the alpine experience and spend a night or 2 camping at Mt Stirling.

Mt Stirling is the perfect place to campout, test your hiking and camping gear, and enjoy pristine wilderness while having access to well-maintained facilities. Camping is allowed anywhere throughout the Mt Stirling Alpine Resort year-round, popular locations include:

  • King Spur Hut
  • Bluff Spur Hut
  • Geelong Grammar Hut (Booked for limited dates during winter by Geelong Grammar School)
  • Cricket Pitch (bookings required for the Alpine Camp glamping facilities)
  • Howqua Gap Hut
  • Razorback Hut (borders with Mansfield State Forest)

All These locations feature shared huts for refuge with water tanks (not treated for drinking and taps may freeze), fireplaces, stocked firewood (winter only) and toilet facilities.

Multiple other areas are well-suited for snow camping on Mt Stirling with sheltered and scenic glades ideal for pitching your tent for a night. The summit area offers a true alpine camping experience above the tree line with multiple flat areas ideal for setting up camp.

Mt Stirling Ski Patrol recommend checking your campsite for trees or limbs which may fall. Be aware if camping at lower elevations Alpine Ash trees may fall or drop branches at any time, select an open area to reduce the risk of injury.

Campfires

Campfires are permitted only within fireplaces located in huts and shelters, or at designated fire pits. To protect the fragile ecosystem and preserve Mt Stirling’s natural environment, campfires are not allowed anywhere outside of these designated areas.
